Black Coffee on one of the most iconic stages on the planet
Some nights are concerts. Others are experiences. And then, every now and then, very rarely, there's something that belongs to a completely different category: a night that transcends the event to become a collective memory. April 18, 2026, at the pyramids of Teotihuacan, Mexico, was one of those nights.
-
22,000 people.
-
12 hours of music.
-
Hot air balloons floating above ancient stones at sunset.
-
And a drone show illuminating the sky to draw one of the most iconic faces of electronic music.
It wasn't just a simple DJ set. It was a real statement!
When electronic music meets 2,000 years of history in Mexico
Teotihuacan: a unique site in the world for hosting a festival
Even before a single note was played, the place itself set the tone. Located 40 kilometers northeast of Mexico City, Teotihuacan is one of the largest and most studied archaeological sites in the world. Built by a civilization that predates the Aztecs by several centuries, the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon have stood for over two thousand years, silent witnesses to the rise and fall of entire empires.
Choosing this venue wasn't just a logistical decision. It was a true statement of intent. Wolfpack Entertainment and Attlada, the event organizers, had promised something truly unique. They delivered.
The vision for the event: a set from sunset to sunrise
The festival ran from 4 p.m. until sunrise the following morning. More than 12 hours of continuous music, in one of the most extraordinary natural and historical settings on the planet.
At the golden hour, hot air balloons floated above the crowd, transforming the sky into an extraordinary open-air dance floor and setting the visual tone for a breathtaking production from the very first moment to the last.
The lineup lived up to the ambition: Shimza, Arodes, Axel Collins B2B Ulysses, Becheranó B2B All Matter, Isa Roos, Marc Ó Marco B2B Espian, and The Áche took turns on stage before Black Coffee headlined and closed the night. Each set raised the energy. Each hour deepened the atmosphere. When the pyramids were plunged into complete darkness, the crowd of 20,000 was ready to experience something they hadn't yet imagined.
The drone show: the highlight of Black Coffee's set
A creative vision rooted in history
Allumee was chosen by the organizers to lead the creative and technical coordination of the drone show, in direct collaboration with the artistic directors of Black Coffee, so that the performance would be both personal and spectacular.
The result: a show with a real soul. Antoine, lead artist at Allumee, explains the narrative thread that runs through each scene: «The show tells the story of the connection between the stars and the Earth, and what that represented for pre-Columbian civilizations through the imposing Pyramid of the Sun. It then bridges this ancient world to the modern era, through electronic music, and as a tribute to the work of Black Coffee.»
Seven scenes and an eight-minute show featuring 600 choreographed drones take the audience on a journey through millennia, from the cosmology of a pre-Columbian civilization to the pulse of contemporary electronic music. A story told entirely with light, above one of humanity's most enduring monuments.
The logistical challenge behind the magic
What the audience experienced as effortless required considerable preparation and problem-solving. Yorick, Allumee's event manager for the show, explains: "Performing at a UNESCO World Heritage site imposes constraints that would deter many productions. Narrow access roads, limited floor space due to surrounding buildings, and strict heritage regulations: every logistical element had to be anticipated, negotiated, and finalized long before a single drone took off. None of these complexities were visible that night. That was precisely the goal."«
Black Coffee's portrait in the sky: a moment that froze the entire crowd.
On the scene, 15,000 phones were suddenly turned up.
When the first drones rose into the Mexican sky, something shifted in the crowd.
And when the first shape appeared, the audience was taken by surprise, totally captivated: "More than 15,000 phones went up when the show started. People started screaming as soon as they saw the artist's face appear in the sky," Yorick recalls.
At a carefully chosen moment in the set, 600 drones held their formation long enough to draw a portrait in the sky. The face of Black Coffee, suspended in full light.
Even the artist turned around and looked up!
No description truly does it justice, and Yorick doesn't try to explain it too much: "I think the video speaks for itself." What he does emphasize is the emotion he felt behind the scenes: "This production was like a dream come true. I got goosebumps all over my body when the last drone landed."«
Online, a viral moment that has garnered millions of views
In the hours following the set, photos and videos spread like wildfire on social media, and continued to gain visibility in the following days, eventually reaching several million views across all platforms.
Zélie, marketing and communications manager at Allumee, explains the anatomy of this viral moment: «We’re talking about 22,000 people sharing a single, deeply moving moment, watching their favorite DJ perform at one of the most iconic locations on the planet. The drone show was part of a perfectly coherent artistic production, from the hot air balloons at the beginning of the evening to the finale. Everything came together to create something truly rare. A unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience! Exactly as the organizers had promised.» In 12 hours, the images posted by Allumee had accumulated over 20,000 views and more than 1,000 likes. Black Coffee’s post, meanwhile, had over 70,000 likes and 4,600 shares.
A testimonial found online perfectly sums up this emotion: «It had been a while since I’d been out, but something told me I had to be there, and honestly… it might be one of the most beautiful moments of my life. I never imagined I would have an experience like this. Black Coffee played while it was still dark, and there was this incredible drone show on top of that. Simply sublime.»
A night that will go down in history
We are convinced that this festival will remain a landmark moment for its audience, for fans of electronic music and, of course, for Black Coffee itself.
For a man who transformed his personal struggles into a Grammy-winning career, Teotihuacan was the perfect stage. Black Coffee has always composed music that sounds both ancient and futuristic. On April 18, 2026, this description ceased to be a metaphor, and his art direction team truly delivered an epic event worthy of his legacy.
For Allumee, this night is a reminder of what drone shows can be when they are designed with intention. Not just as a visual spectacle, but as a true narrative. We don't just fill a sky; we create a memory that sometimes outlives the event itself.
We are honored to have been part of this world-class event, in partnership with Attlada and Wolfpack Entertainment Mexico.
«"We warmly thank JC, Joe, and Gabriel for their trust," Yorick concluded. Looking forward to the next one!
