800 drones to immortalize a historic moment
Exactly 40 years ago, a young Michael Jordan became legendary with a stunning dunk during a friendly game in Trieste, Italy. This dazzling move, which shattered the basketball backboard, would become one of the symbols of the player's power and determination: the famous "ShatteredBackboard".
On June 23, 2025, Allumee spectacularly resurrected this iconic moment above the Adriatic Sea thanks to a unique drone show, designed under the direction of DEFMO Studio for Nike.
Above the Adriatic, facing Piazza dell'Unità, the 800 light drones illuminated the night sky to offer a breathtaking aerial fresco. In just a few minutes of precisely choreographed performance, spectators were able to rediscover the iconic elements of this iconic scene:
● The Pallacanestro Trieste logo
● The silhouette of the Air Jordan 1 hanging from a helicopter
● The faithful and complete reconstruction of Jordan's dunk
● The symbolic bursting of the panel, a key moment in the myth
● The famous Red Jumpman, which has become a timeless symbol
All spread over 200 meters wide and 110 meters high, with visual effects amplified by light reflections in the sea, for a tenfold sensory and emotional impact for the spectators present in the square.
The artistic team meticulously choreographed the scenes to create the desired WOW effect. The result is heightened by the reflections of the colored lights in the sea, making the show even more magical.
The Advantage of Drone Shows for International Marketing Campaigns
This isn't the first time Jordan Brand has used drone shows to make an impact during product launches.
In February 2025, the brand had already orchestrated a show of 1,200 drones above the Bay Bridge in San Francisco, a few days before the NBA All-Star Weekend.
In Shanghai, the brand also deployed a similar format, transforming the skyline into a luminous tribute to Michael Jordan.
